People often ask me what kind of photographs do I take, Landscape? Portraits? Fashion?
I always reply none of those and all of them!
Rather I like to tell stories.
This is no surprise of course...30 years as a Cinematographer taught me a great deal about storytelling.
I use the tools and methods of film-making in my photography
Composition, structure and rhythm.
Establishing shots, close ups, points of view and eyelines.
Montage, dissolves, superimposition.
The idea of scenes, a story broken down into its constituent parts and then brought together again.
Together they make stories.
We all need stories.
Stories help us make sense of our world, stories that may be brief or extended; simple or complex.
I tell stories.
I like to see myself as a storyteller.
